Frequently asked questions
Which languages does the app support? The hiragana/katakana app shows its text in Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese. It follows your device language, and a parent can pick a different one under Settings. The kanji apps are in Japanese only.
Why is the voice Japanese even when the text is in my language? The app teaches how Japanese letters are written and how they sound, so the letters are always read aloud in Japanese. Only the on-screen text is translated.
There is no sound Turn the volume up. The Apps are made to play sound even when the silent switch is on.
Can I change the voice? In the hiragana/katakana app, Settings lets you choose between the recorded voice (Zundamon) and your device’s own speech synthesis.
Which stroke order do you follow? The one taught in Japanese elementary school handwriting lessons (pencil). The stroke order data comes from KanjiVG: the kanji stroke order and model shapes, and the stroke points for hiragana and katakana (see “About this app” inside each app).
Does the app judge how neat the writing is? No. It only asks the child to try again when the writing is clearly not the letter (for example, a few unrelated lines).
How do I delete the practice records? Deleting the app deletes its records.
I found a letter whose stroke order looks wrong Please tell us at the contact address below. It helps to say which letter and which stroke.
いろえらび64
I want to save a drawing to the Photos app Open the drawing in the gallery and tap “しゃしんに のこす”. After a check for a parent (a simple addition question), the drawing is added to the Photos app. The app only adds to Photos; it never reads your photos. Your iPhone or iPad asks for confirmation the first time only.
The drawing cannot be added to Photos In the Settings app, open “いろえらび64” → “Photos” and allow adding.
I want to change how the screen looks In “設定” (Settings, after the parent check), choose from the options under “画面の見た目” (appearance): パーティー ポップ, いつもの, ネオン クラブ and オーロラ グラス.
I want to delete a drawing Open the drawing in the gallery and tap “けす”. Choose “けす” on the confirmation screen to delete it. A deleted drawing cannot be restored.
I want to turn the voice off In “設定”, under “応援ボイス” (cheering voice), choose “オン” (on), “完成のときだけ” (only when a drawing is finished) or “オフ” (off).
